The Delaware Center for Horticulture Bare Root Tree Program, Pick up dates Oct 22-23
This is a wonderful program through The Delaware Center for Horticulture.
Please pick up your trees October 22-23rd.
From now until September 25, TheDCH is accepting orders for bare root trees.
DEGAC is partnering with TheDCH to plant trees in memory of loved ones. With Grief Awareness Month coming in November, this is a great time to purchase your own tree to plant or donate.

Join In Grief Awareness Week with Events in November
Newark, Delaware – The Delaware Grief Awareness Consortium is a group of volunteers with personal interests and professional expertise in supporting those who are grieving. Our mission is to improve the public’s and professionals’ understanding of grief, to provide an up-to-date online directory of bereavement resources for families, and to promote the expression of grief through involvement in the arts and events during Grief Awareness Week.
During the month of November, the Delaware Grief Awareness Consortium encourages people to talk and express their feelings of loss and grief, honor the memory of family and friends who have passed away, and attend events in their communities.
In 2009, Delaware’s Governor Jack Markell and Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn proclaimed the first week in November as Delaware’s Grief Awareness Week. It reminds us of the widespread prevalence of grief as a normal process in loss and bereavement. Many organizations are embracing the words of the Governor’s Proclamation by displaying it in prominent locations in all three counties. The Delaware Grief Awareness Consortium asks that all Delawareans read the proclamation which can be found on the group’s website (www.degac.org) with the hope that it will trigger moments of reflection and discussion.
In celebration of the week and in honor of the impact of loss and grief on our state, the Consortium recognizes the many activities throughout the month of November that support the expression of loss and grief as families look towards the holiday season. Throughout November, local activities and events open to the public include presentations, discussions, memorial services, performances, and even a children’s art show. Please see the attached list of activities for more information. A complete list can be found at www.degac.org .

There will be music, a time prayer and Remembrance. Amy Benton, the co-founder and Vice President of the Joy-Hope Foundation will speak on “How to approach the bereaved”. There will be a special focus to honor those families served by Joy-Hope Foundation as well. Free and open to the public. Market Street Wilmington, DE 19802 9:00am to noon Riverview Cemetery is the final resting place of over 900 Veterans. November 10th Poetry of Loss Bear Public Library 101 Governors Pl., Bear, DE 19701 2:00pm-4:00pm Nina Bennett, author, and other writers will share their poems of loss. Bennett is a healthcare professional with a subspecialty in bereavement issues and secondary traumatic stress. Her chapbook, Sound Effects, was published in 2013from Broadkill Press as part of their Key Poetry Series. Nina’s poem “Deja Vu” took third place in the Out & About magazine poetry contest, and her poem “They Do” was nominated for 2012 Best of the Net. Her articles and poetry have appeared in numerous print and online journals and anthologies. Nina is a contributing author to the Open to Hope Foundation, and a Co-Chair of the Delaware Grief Awareness Consortium. Proceeds from Nina’s book, Forgotten Tears, are donated to agencies dedicated to supporting bereaved families. Free and open to the public. November 11th Veterans’ Day November 12th U.S. Army Field Band, Jazz Ambassadors Schwartz Center for the Arts 226 S State St., Dover, DE 19901 7:00 pm. Tickets for this event are free, but need to be reserved in advance. This concert will benefit Fisher House and “Families of the Fallen” at Dover Air Force Base. In recent news, that during the partial government shutdown, Fisher House Foundation has offered to cover the $100,000 payments that the government typically pays out to families within three days of a soldier’s death. November 20th It’s Time We Talked: NAMI Speaks NAMI Delaware (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Newark Library 750 Library Ave., Newark DE 19711 7:00pm Don Lipstein, Coordinator for Survivors of Suicide Peer Mentor Program at TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), will speak on PTSD, including military personnel experiences and share his own personal story. Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims
We invite family and loved ones to be part of this event by decorating memorial bags, posting writings and artwork on the memorial wall, adding a photo to the memorial video played at the event. Bags andwall space will be available the night of the event.
